2012 Regional Conference
“Music Therapy: Learn More, Create More, B-More!”
Entertainment and Local Information
Featured Entertainment: Musicians of Mercy
Opening Session:
Thursday March 22, 2012
12:45-2:15 PM
Musicians of Mercy (MOM) is a collective of over seventy independent musicians and artists based in the Metropolitan D.C. area. Founded and directed by violist Robin Fay Massie, the group was formed in January 2010 following Haiti's devastating earthquake. Through the production of themed benefit concerts, MOM raises funds for victims of natural disasters and other tragedies. All performers volunteer their time and talents in concerts that are free or open to the public with a nominal admission fee. MOM believes that great music should be accessible to the entire community and showcases all musical genres from rock to jazz to classical. We feature gifted solo performing artists, chamber ensembles, jazz combos, dancers, poets, and a full orchestra. Their mission is to
aim to restore hope and unity to this suffering world by partnering with local and international charities. Each concert is a "marriage" with a different charity for a different cause. Proceeds from our concerts are sent directly to those charities.

"Visionary art as defined for the purposes of the American Visionary Art Museum refers to art produced by self-taught individuals, usually without formal training, whose works arise from an innate personal vision that revels foremost in the creative act itself." In short, visionary art begins by listening to the inner voices of the soul, and often may not even be thought of as 'art' by its creator.
