Summer 2009 Issue
Key Changes:
Diane Austin was featured in the February issue of Hampton Jitney Magazine about her work in Vocal Psychotherapy
Patricia Doyle has taken ownership of Touch Of Music, a community based music therapy and education studio in Pottstown PA founded by Phyllis Boone. Phyllis continues to be involved with clients and students and as a helper to Patricia.
Nicole Hahna will be joining Sue Hadley in the music therapy program at Slippery Rock University. Aaron Teague has joined the growing team of music therapists at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Pittsburgh. Nicole and Aaron bring great talents and gifts to the region. They were both valued as adjunct faculty at Appalachian State University and will be missed there.
Evelyn Selesky, MT-BC, LCAT, along with Robert Krout from Southern Methodist University, supervised music therapy students doing fieldwork with the Jamaica Field Service Project, an on-going program supported by the Peace Corps and Rotary Club of Jamaica. Sixteen music therapy students from schools in New York, Pennsylvania, and states in other regions received valuable field experience at a special education school, nursing home, and homeless shelter in rural Jamaica. Dr. Joni Milgram-Luterman accompanied Fredonia students on this trip in May 2008 and 2009. SUNY students are able to register for this as a three-credit course. Visit the JAFSP website at www.jafieldservice.com
Carole Thomas, MM, MT-BC, received a “School and Community Therapist Award” from the Arlington County Department of Human Services (VA) on March 3, 2009. These awards are presented to professionals who provide an extraordinary level of service, enabling a person with intellectual or developmental disabilities to develop the skills they need to live safely at home and to fully participate in community activities. Carole works with the Community Integration Center/Service Source, Inc. and MVLE, Inc., both located in Northern Virginia.
